I posted about my Napa Vacation here, but before we headed to Napa Valley, we started just south of San Fransisco. Pebble Beach had always been one of Billy’s golf dreams, and I was so excited to make it a reality for him for his 30th birthday.

Since we flew in from the East Coast and landed late in the evening, we drove down to Monterey and stayed at the Monterey Plaza Hotel. This was a great way to save a little money, as well as get used to the new time zone. We spent 2 nights there so our time at the Pebble Beach Resorts could be as long as possible without us needing to travel the day we arrived. For Day 2 (first full day) of our trip, we went on a sailing tour of the peninsula on Bella on the Bay. We were able to bring our own wine and had a fantastic time. I would recommend this to anyone! For dinner our 2nd night, we went to The Inn at Spanish Bay to see the bagpiper during sunset.

Golf started at 9 AM for Billy on Day 3, where he played Spyglass Hill. From there, we went straight to the Pebble Beach Lodge and checked into our room. We opted to spend a little more money and got an amazing spa room which had a hot tub. We spent our day exploring the resort area which was beautiful. For dinner, we went to The Tap Room right in the main building.

Day 4 of our golf adventure started early for me and I walked to the little shop on property where I was able to get breakfast sandwiches and some bottles of champagne. Billy’s tee time wasn’t until 11:30, so we were able to have a leisurely morning before he headed to the course. We decided Pebble Beach was a once in a lifetime course, and opted to walk. You end up walking all the way out to Carmel-by-the-Sea and back! We enjoyed lunch on the course, and for dinner we went to The Bench.

On Day 5, we checked out of Pebble Beach the next day, and drove south to Carmel. We wanted a day in between all of the rounds of golf, and this was a welcomed rest. We wondered town visiting the shops, tasting rooms, and enjoyed a relaxing dinner.

Day 6 started a little earlier, as we got up around 8 AM to drive up to Santa Cruiz for a 10 AM tee time at Pasatiempo, an Alister Mackenzie public course. This ended up being Billy’s favorite course, and I know he would go back in a heartbeat if we could. From there, we drove another hour east to CordeValle. I had never heard of this course, but it soon became my favorite hotel I have ever stayed at. The Rosewood CordeValle is the definition of service and hospitality. As soon as we checked in, everyone there seemed to know our names. We were driven by golf cart to our stunning room while they parked our car for us. We went to the pool for a few drinks and got chair massaged poolside while overlooking the mountains and golf course. We changed for dinner and and enjoyed a relaxing night at One Iron Bar, one of their restaurants on site.

Day 7 started with Billy’s tee time. The resort offer we booked included a round of golf and breakfast for him, and they brought his order out to us on the course. Pure service! We also got a caddie for Billy who wore the traditional white coveralls you will see caddies wearing if you watch the Masters. After golf, the hotel staff picked up our luggage and drove us in the golf cart through the golf course to the vineyard at the top of the hill. They even stopped on the way to take a photo for us. When we were done with our tasting, they came back and picked us up!

From Cordevalle we continued up north to Napa, where you can see we started our next leg of the journey, but this would have also been a good stop to our trip if we hadn’t had as much time.

If you’re looking for a long weekend for the guys or a romantic couple escape that make everyone happy, this would be the trip! We paired more affordable accommodations with luxury to help offset the cost. There were plenty of things for both of us, even though this was a “golf” trip.
